FLACADA is proud to support student success by providing opportunities for recognition and professional development opportunities for academic advisors, faculty and administrators. Please review below the different awards along with submission criteria. To submit a nomination:

Winners will be recognized during the 2024 FLACADA Annual Conference. Each winner will receive one free registration to the conference that includes a one-year membership to FLACADA. Registration and membership are non-transferable. Only one award will be awarded per individual. Self-nominations will be accepted.
- Rising Star Award
- Excellence in Advising Award
- Outstanding Faculty Academic Advising Award
- Outstanding Advising Administrator Award
- Exemplary Practice Award
- Lourdes Acevedo Student Advocate Award
Purpose:
To recognize and honor a new professional advisor who has demonstrated qualities associated with the outstanding advisement of students.
Nominations, Selection Criteria, and Award Process:
- Any currently employed full-time advisor in the State of Florida who has served as an advisor for a period of three (3) or fewer years
- The nomination must include the following:
- Name, phone number, email, job title, institution’s address, and campus of nominee
- Name, phone number, email, and job title of nominator
- A brief statement listing all advising positions held (both current and previous). Include titles, institutions, and length of service (an Advising Resume of the nominee can be submitted in lieu of this)
- An explanation (500 word maximum) of why the nominator thinks the nominee is deserving of the award and examples of the ways in which this nominee has demonstrated excellence in the following three areas:
- Impact on students
- Commitment to student success
- Support of the mission and philosophy of advising
- The award recipient will be awarded and recognized at the FLACADA Annual Conference Luncheon. Press releases highlighting the recipient’s accomplishment will also be forwarded to their institution.

OUTSTANDING FACULTY ACADEMIC ADVISOR AWARD
Purpose:
To recognize and honor a faculty member who has contributed to the outstanding advisement of students.
Nominations, Selection Criteria, and Award Process:
- Any currently employed full-time faculty member in the State of Florida who has contributed to or participated in the academic advisement of students
- The nomination must include the following:
- Name, phone number, email, job title, institution’s address, and campus of nominee
- Name, phone number, email, and job title of nominator
- An explanation (500 word maximum) of the contributions made to academic advising activities on his/her campus and why the nominator believes the nominee deserves this award
- The award recipient will be awarded and recognized at the FLACADA Annual Conference Luncheon. Press releases highlighting the recipient’s accomplishment will also be forwarded to their institution.
OUTSTANDING ADVISING ADMINISTRATOR AWARD
Purpose:
To recognize and honor an individual who is transforming academic advising through the outstanding management of an advising program.
Nominations, Selection Criteria, and Award Process:
- Any currently employed full-time Advising Administrator or Director in the State of Florida
- The nomination must include the following:
- Name, phone number, email, job title, institution’s address, and campus of nominee
- Name, phone number, email, and job title of nominator
- A brief statement listing all advising positions held (both current and previous). Include titles, institutions, and length of service (an Advising Resume of the nominee can be submitted in lieu of this)
- An explanation (500 word maximum) of why the nominator thinks the nominee is deserving of the award and examples of the ways in which this nominee has demonstrated excellence in the following three areas:
- Commitment to student success
- Support of the mission and philosophy of advising
- Transformation or growth of their advising staff and/or department
- The award recipient will be awarded and recognized at the FLACADA Annual Conference Luncheon. Press releases highlighting the recipient’s accomplishment will also be forwarded to their institution.
Purpose:
To recognize and honor outstanding programs and professionals in academic advising throughout the State of Florida
Nominations, Selection Criteria, and Award Process:
- Any program or practice considered new and innovative that illustrates exceptional academic advising and has been in existence for at least twelve (12) months prior to the time of submission
- The nomination must include the following:
- Program title, names and contact information for person/s nominating program, institution’s address, and campus of nominee
- Date program originally began
- A brief description of the program including program objectives
- An explanation of the needs met by this program
- A listing of how many and what type of individuals were served by this program (i.e. – 200 First generation students)
- A listing of the cost of providing the program (if there was no cost, what resources were needed)
- Source of funding or resources
- How was the use of funds or resources justified
- An explanation of Institutional involvement (i.e. – which departments)
- A description of the results obtained from implementing this program or practice
- A group of judges will review the program submissions and up to four finalists will be invited to present at the FLACADA Annual Conference and highlighted in the conference program. The individuals presenting an Exemplary Practice will be awarded and recognized at the FLACADA Annual Conference Luncheon. Press releases highlighting the recipient/s accomplishment will also be forwarded to their institution.
LOURDES ACEVEDO STUDENT ADVOCATE AWARD
Purpose:
To recognize and honor a higher education professional who has a vested interest in and commitment to advocating for his/her students throughout the State of Florida
Nominations, Selection Criteria, and Award Process:
- Open to any higher education professional in the state of Florida
- The nomination must include the following:
- Name, phone number, email, job title, institution’s address, and campus of nominee
- Name, phone number, email, and job title of nominator
- A brief statement listing all advising positions held (both current and previous). Include titles, institutions, and length of service (an Advising Resume of the nominee can be submitted in lieu of this)
- An explanation (500 word maximum) of why the nominator thinks the nominee is deserving of the award and examples of the ways in which this nominee has demonstrated excellence in the following three areas:
- Commitment to advocating for students
- Professional practices
- Documented success
- The award recipient will be awarded and recognized at the FLACADA Annual Conference Luncheon. Press releases highlighting the recipient’s accomplishment will also be forwarded to their institution.
